Blue Prints / Pierced

These object were shown in The Forgotten Man: Reckoning the Sir George Williams Race Riots 1969 exhibition that took place at the Bonsecours Ceramics Gallery in 2025. In a 1976 published PhD paper, I found a blueprint of the 7th floor of the Hall Building, the site of the Sir George Williams University race protests, and used it to screen print underglaze onto stoneware and paper-clay. I then then crumpled the clay and pierced the objects with rebar. The folds evoke the complexity of the racial tensions and nuances of the political moment.
